Yusuf Islam (the former Cat Stevens) has announced that hew will hold the world premier of his new musical, Moonshadow, in Melbourne, Australia.

Moonshadow will feature a collection of music from Islam's career, all the way back to when he was known as Cat Stevens, to tell the semi-autobiographical "magical story of a young man and his moonshadow's struggle against the oncoming of darkness."

While that sounds slightly enigmatic, a press release reassures us that "It's about hopes and dreams; greed and power; right and wrong; but most importantly Moonshadow is about happiness and love."

The musical will feature classics like "Father and Son", "Wild World", "Morning Has Broken", "Peace Train" and "First Cut is the Deepest" as well as songs written after his conversion to Islam.

The $5 million production will have its world premiere at the Princess Theatre in Melbourne in May 2012.

The show had originally been intended to open at Northampton's Derngate Theatre in the UK in 2009, prior to a West End transfer, but the run was cancelled when a London venue could not be secured.
