I have a business opportunity to sell paint brushes. However, the brushes are made from swine bristle. Is this lawful?
Answered by Sheikh Rashîd al-Hasan, professor at King Khâlid University Imam Ibn al-Qayyim stated in his book Zâd al-Ma`âd (5/761) that pig hair products are unlawful. He said: “Swine is unlawful as a whole including all its external and internal parts.”
In the Consensus Encyclopedia of Islamic Law (1/400), it states: “Muslims have agreed as a matter of consensus that it is unlawful to use swine’s hair for beading.” This claim of consensus was given by Ibn Hazm in al-Muhallâ, page 988.
The truth is, however, that some scholars permitted the use of pig hair for stringing beads. Nevertheless, I advise you, not to sell or use anything that is made from pig hair. Source: Islam Today
