"We believe there is ample evidence to go forward with this case and urge federal authorities to take over from state attorneys who seem unwilling to prosecute this man," said CAIR-NY Executive Director Muneer Awad.

CAIR-NY sent a letter addressed to Connecticut Prosecutor David Cohen, Governor Dannel Malloy and the Chief State's Attorney Office last week seeking an explanation to the sudden decision to dismiss charges by the prosecutor's office. The state claims that although Mr. Jennings is most likely guilty of committing a crime, that dismissing the charges is the best result.

The cab driver, Mohammad Ammar, called the police last December after the banker, William Bryan Jennings, allegedly refused to pay his cab fare, slashed Mr. Ammar with a pocket knife, fled the scene of the incident, and flew to Florida the next morning.

Jennings, who reportedly admitted to being intoxicated after attending a party at a Morgan Stanley event, allegedly told the cab driver, an American citizen, "go back to your country" after refusing to pay the fare. When Mr. Ammar explained he would have to go to the police, the banker allegedly shouted "Go ahead, I pay $10K in taxes a year. They won't do anything to me."
