RIYADH: Education alone is not enough to become a good citizen. Confidence, wisdom, piety and good morals are also equally important, Mohamed Saeed Mohamed Hussein, principal Bangladesh International School (English Section), told the passing out students at the Annual Graduation Ceremony held at the school premises recently.

A total of 26 students including 15 girls were conferred High School diplomas on completion of their school career. S. Bodiruzzaman, counselor and head of chancery of the Bangladesh Embassy, was also present at the function as chief guest.

“The primary aim of education is to enable a student to become a useful citizen in the society. To achieve this object, parents, teachers and students should make a conducive environment for the children to learn moral education as well as the subjects taught in the curriculum,” the principal said.

He added that the institution is proud that it has produced 100 percent results at the IGCSE examination conducted last year. He requested the passing out students to live up to expectations and bring name and fame to their alma mater in their future career.

Wishing the outgoing students well in their future career, Bodiruzzaman said school is the best place to cultivate good habits, which would eventually make them a real civilized man in the society.

Shaikh Salim Ullah, chairman of the Board of Directors (BOD) of the school, delivered the welcome address.

The keynote address was made by Dr. Mohamed Shakwat Hussein, lecturer of nanotechnology at King Abdul Azeez Center for Technological Sciences and professor emeritus, Islamic University of Malaysia.

Saptarshi Chowdhury, a student who was ranked fourth in chemistry, and first in mathematics in the Kingdom at the IGCSE Exam 2008, was honored with a gold award by the school.
