TAV Construction has announced it is at the mobilisation stage for the new Madinah Airport. The contract value for Phase One being undertaken by the Turkish contractor is an estimated $1.4bn.
Conceptual design work at Madinah Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport, seen as one of the cornerstones in enabling and improving Hajj and Umrah trips to Saudi Arabia, has already commenced.
"Madinah Airport is an invaluable addition to our portfolio," TAV Construction Gulf regional director Yusuf Akcayoglu tells CW. "TAV Group has already realised similar projects at ten different airports spread over three different continents."
"Our expertise in such airport developments, coupled with our partners' local dominance, will turn this project into a success story," added Akcayoglu of a project where construction is planned to commence in the first half of 2012 and be completed in three years.
TAV will also be in charge of managing and running the airport after it is completed, and will operate it for at least 25 years..
