BEIRUT – Giving up his career in music in 2011, a former Lebanese pop star has released an Islamic song about Jesus, giving a surprise return to millions of his fans across the Arab world, Agence France Presse (AFP) reported.
“One is not a true Muslim if one doesn’t believe in Christ, peace be upon him,” Fadel Chaker tweeted as he released the link of his latest track.
Chaker left a successful career in music in 2011 to become a fighter in Lebanese Muslim scholar Ahmad al-Assir’s forces.

Ever since, he has retired music, grew his beard and publicly renounced pop music as forbidden in Islam.
Giving a surprise comeback, Chaker released a new audio track Wednesday on his YouTube account.
The song, entitled “Christ is Blessed,” has already received more than 80,000 hits.
“Christ is blessed and we are all his beloved. He is the bringer of the true faith,” Shaker sings softly, in a style akin to traditional Islamic chant.
Accompanied by a chorus that repeats the refrain throughout the four-and-a-half minute clip, he tells of the conception by Jesus’ mother Mary.
“She gave birth to him, she was pregnant from the Creator of the universe, without the sperm of a man.”
Muslims believe in Jesus as one of the great Prophets of God and that he is the son of Mary but not the Son of God. He was conceived and born miraculously.
In the Noble Qur’an, Jesus is called "Isa". He is also known as Al-Masih (the Christ) and Ibn Maryam (Son of Mary).
The song was met with mixed reactions, ranging from harsh criticism to praise.
“Christ that you are singing for preached peace and Love not killing… Whether you are doped up, or you are trying to make a move back to normal society by using a great figure like Jesus. Which is a cheap shot. Go rot in hell,” said one YouTube user.
But another said: “God bless you. We are with you.”
“God bless you Fadel ! And don't mind what people are saying about you.. You are a great man. Merry Christmas & Happy 2014 for everybody :) And for the guys saying that Fadel is a terrorist and he is bad guy.. Everybody makes mistakes :) Maybe he made one mistake but God forgave him and you should do the same. God Bless you man :),” another said.
Fadel Chaker joined Ahmad al-Assir’s forces at the onset of Syria’s civil war against regime dictator Bashar al-Assad.
The group was set up to counter Lebanon’s Hezbollah army, which directly supports the Assad regime in Syria.
