KARACHI – Massive protests have filled the streets in both Pakistan and Kashmir to denounce ongoing Israeli attacks on besieged Gaza strip, slamming the international community’s inaction over Israel’s killing of scores of Palestinian civilians.

“We demand that the rulers of the Muslim countries wake up. The Pakistan government has expressed its concern and we demand that a National Assembly session be summoned and a resolution condemning Israel be passed,” Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami in Karach, said addressing the protesters, Press TV reported on Monday, July 14.

“We appeal to the Muslims of the world to wake up and stand against the tiny Israel. If Muslim nations across the globe take a joint stand, the problem will be resolved,” he said.

Flocking to Karachi streets, protesters shouted chanted slogans against Israel, carrying banners with anti-Israel statements on them.

The protest comes as a huge wave of demonstrations hit the world over the ongoing Israeli war on Gaza strip on Ramadan.

During the weekend, people from around the world have held protest rallies to denounce Israel for its aggression against the Palestinians in Gaza.

Israel has been launching relentless airstrikes against Gaza since July 8 in which more than 185 have been killed and over 1000 injured in the tiny coastal strip.

Israel has claimed that its new war on Gaza, under the title Operation Protect Edge, was a response to the rocket attacks being carried out by Hamas.

It added that its offensive is intended to halt rocket fire at its cities from the Gaza Strip.

There have been no Israeli casualties from the hundreds of rockets that have been fired by militants in Gaza.

Livelihood in the Gaza Strip, home to more than 1.8 million, has badly deteriorated since Israel imposed a crippling siege on the enclave in 2006.

Kashmir Students

In Kashmir, pro-India administration has shut down schools and colleges in India-controlled Kashmir district, a day after thousands of students protested the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

“We have been watching the genocide of Palestinians on the Internet and if we can't do anything, we can at least come on the streets and show solidarity with them,” Mohammad Zubair, a computer science student in Srinagar, who has been part of the protests since Saturday, told Anadolu Agency.

“We are surprised at the number of people who joined the protests today but I am sure, we will be double this number in tomorrow’s protest.”

Held for the third consecutive day, a huge protest was attended by thousands of students who shouted pro-Palestine and anti-Israel slogans.

The students shouted "Down with Israel," “Free Palestine” and “Shame on Muslim rulers” and demanded an immediate end to Israel's bombing of the long-besieged Gaza Strip.

After Tuesday’s sudden decision to close schools and colleges for summer vacations, it was not clear whether protests will continue or no.

“It was a sudden announcement. We had been told that schools will break for summer vacations from July 23 but everyone was surprised when we were told that there would be no schools from tomorrow,” a lecturer at a government college in Srinagar told AA.

Along with school boys and girls, Kashmiri religious leaders have also condemned the Israeli bombings and asked Kashmiri people to boycott Israeli-made products.

"As a mark of a protest over the continuous massacre of Palestinians in Gaza by Israel, there should be a complete boycott of Israeli products in Kashmir," Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of the separatist Hurriyat Conference said in a press statement.
