CAIRO – A restaurant commercial depicting Jesus Christ as smoking marijuana and holding a sandwich has sparked outcry among Seattle residents, as the restaurant riffed off Easter falling on April 20, or 4/20, a day which indicates a pop-culture reference to cannabis consumption.

“I’m not your moral guide in life, I’m selling burgers” Lunchbox Laboratory owner John Schmidt told ABC News affiliate KOMO-TV in Seattle.

“It’s not an anti-Christian message, it’s a very peaceful message; Jesus enjoying a sandwich and a blunt.”

The controversy erupted after Lunchbox Laboratory sent out an email advertisement to approximately 13,000 subscribers that features an illustration of Jesus Christ holding a burger and a smoking joint.

The ad had a speech bubble that read, “When I Get Back, All I Want is the Burger of the Gods” as the date “4.20.14” was put in large print at the top of the ad, with the 4 and 20 highlighted in green.

This year, Easter Sunday falls on 4/20, a number popularly associated with cannabis consumption and a date marijuana enthusiasts celebrate.

Unsurprisingly, some customers weren't impressed with the art selection.

“Not at all happy with your choice in advertising. Disrespectful. Won’t be back,” wrote Charith Varga on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Monica Barry added, “Shameful”.

Ron Reynolds has also vented his anger on the restaurant’s Facebook page.

“This was, without a doubt, the worst ad I have ever seen for anything. And I'm an ATHEIST,” he wrote.

Not everyone was disappointed by the idea of the advertisement.

“I support you and your ads! I can take a joke, apparently not everyone can,” said Ashleign Klemetson.

The ad has people all over the country talking, which is exactly what Lunchbox Laboratory Owner John Schmidt intended.

“I wanted you to look at Jesus smoking a blunt, eating a hamburger and say, ‘Hey, I’m going to tell my friend,’” Schmidt told Q13FOX.com in Seattle.

“The chatter is much more than I anticipated. I’m simply trying to sell burgers.”

Muslims believe in Jesus as one of the great Prophets of God and that he is the son of Mary but not the Son of God. He was conceived and born miraculously.

In the Noble Qur’an, Jesus is called "Isa". He is also known as Al-Masih (the Christ) and Ibn Maryam (Son of Mary).

As for his crucifixion, Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified but was lifted up to heaven.

Muslims believe that Jesus will come back to earth before the end of time to restore peace and order, fight the Anti-Christ (Al-Masih Al-Dajjal) and bring victory for truth and righteousness.

The true followers of Jesus will prevail over those who deny him, misrepresent him and reject him.
