This is a matter of liability. When accidents occur, the judge will have to determine on a case-by-case basis whether liability should rest with the driver of the car on with the manufacturer.
Generally, when someone’s animal or property causes damages to someone else, the owner of that property is liable. This situation, however, is somewhat different and it is premature to give a ruling on it until such a car is made commercially availible and actually placed on the road.
Only at such a time can the practical realities of automated cars and the effects that they have on traffic patterns be properly studied.
