I have a Muslim teacher at college. He tells the students in class that he puts his money in U.S government bonds, and when I talked to him about this in his office, he told me that he knows this is interest and that interest is unlawful. I told him at least he should not tell his students about his interest-based transactions but he is convinced that this is up to him and that the students know what is best for them and they do not have to do the same. Please, I need your advice in getting through to him.

May Allah reward you for carrying out the duty of enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong.

He knows that interest is unlawful. He simply does not care. If your concern is his talking openly about his misconduct to the students, then you may like to tell him that if these students follow him in his evil ways because of his influence, then they he shares in their sins without their sins being diminished in the least.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: “All of my nation receives pardon except those who openly broadcast their sins.”
