I would like to know what are the rewards of protecting the mosque? The reason I am asking this is because I recently started working as a security guard during the night at a mosque, and I want to know if there is any reward for me in doing so.

If you are volunteering to do this work, you will be doing something worthy of a great reward. This is because you are guarding the house of Allah solely for Allah’s sake.

If you are receiving a salary for this job, then you will be rewarded according to your faithfulness in your work, and for what you bring to it of a sincere and good intention and of the love that you have for guarding the house of Allah. Deeds are rewarded according to the intentions behind them.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Actions are but by intentions and every person will have only what he intended.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî and Sahîh Muslim]

Therefore, such a worker will be rewarded to the extent that his intention is good, his work is done well, and he is sincere in carrying out his duties.

May Allah guide us all.
