This hadîth is narrated in Sunan al-Tirmidhî (2383) with the following text:
“You are in a time wherein whoever abandons a tenth of what he was commanded to do will go astray, and a time will come when whoever does a tenth of what he was commanded to do will be saved.”
Al-Tirmidhî says about this hadîth: “This is a strange hadîth which cannot be identified in a line of transmission other than through Na`îm b. Hamâd , who is weak.”
Sheikh al-Albânî confirms the weakness of this hadîth in his Silsilah al-Ahâdîth al-Da`îfah..
In any case, the hadîth refers to the numerous trials that will occur in the future and the lack of support among people for performing righteous deeds. Therefore, whoever does a good thing will be rewarded more than one does the same thing in other times as the reward varies according to difficulty.
And Allah knows best
