It is permissible for a Muslim to keep an account in a bank that deals with interest in case you need a bank account and cannot find an Islamic bank. However, you may not benefit from any interests accrued by that account.
If some interest is added to your account, you can dispose of it by spending it on public premises or for needy people. You must do so with the intention of ridding yourself of the unlawful money and not with the intention of charity.
