Sheikh `Abd al-Rahmân al-Barrâk
There is nothing wrong with naming one’s child with names that are permissible and lawful in meaning, even if it is done to fulfill the wishes of one’s Christian or Jewish wife. Pleasing one’s wife and conforming with her wishes is something permissible on its own and should not in any way be misconstrued with the issue of emulating or imitating the non-Muslims.
Indeed, many Jews and Christians give their children the names of Prophets like Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, and Joseph, as well as the names of Jacob’s sons, like the name Benjamin.
And Allah knows best.
