Sheikh Khâlid al-Mâjid
Sports such as football, tennis, and volleyball are permissible because they do not include any prohibited act. In most cases, they do not lead to unlawful behavior.
However, three conditions must be observed so that these games would not be unlawful.
1. There should not be any gambling involved.
2. Participation in the sport should not prevent a person from Allah’s remembrance and from prayers.
3. Engaging in such sports should not absorb too much of the player's time.
This last condition is determined by general opinion. What people generally consider a long time is a long time.
