I know that backbiting is a sin. However, when someone wrongs me or insults me, I cannot help harboring ill feelings towards that person and thinking bad thoughts about him. Am I punishable for this?

I have a Muslim teacher at college. He tells the students in class that he puts his money in U.S government bonds, and when I talked to him about this in his office, he told me that he knows this is interest and that interest is unlawful. I told him at least he should not tell his students about his interest-based transactions but he is convinced that this is up to him and that the students know what is best for them and they do not have to do the same. Please, I need your advice in getting thro ...

The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to seek Allah's forgiveness more than most other people. Why is this the case, since he is the best of people and the one whom Allah had forgiven everything?

If a person sinned in public and everyone knows about his sin, is it required of him to make his repentance public as well? If it is not required of him, is it allowed for him to do so?

If a person commits a sin and then truly repents for it, I understand that he is forgiven. What if he commits the very same sin again at a later date? Will he be liable for the earlier sin as well, or is that sin still forgiven?

I am a young Muslim man, and have lived all my life in the West. I need some urgent advice on an issue which is troubling me greatly. I have fallen into the habit of fornicating. As prostitutes are readily available in my city, a couple of years ago I started visiting some. Unfortunately, I have not been able to break this habit. Whenever I visit a prostitute I feel so much regret inside and I repent to Allah and I convince myself never to do it again. However, I always go back to it.

I am a sinner of the worst degree. I am a slave to my perverted desires. I wish for redemption but cannot get myself to repent over my actions. It would have made sense if I was a non-believer but I am not. I know the consequences of my actions, but still I do not stop. I want to change but I cannot do it on my own. I have years of sins to wash away but I just keep on adding to the list, even in this holy month of Ramadan. Please help me.

Is it true that when we perform wudû’ for prayers, it washes away our sins? Or is it our prayers themselves that remove our sins?

A man cursed Islam in a moment of intense anger - what is the ruling on that? What are the conditions of repentance from this action? Is his marriage to his wife annulled as a result?

I am a betrothed to a young Muslim man who loves me much, and insha Allah we will get married soon. My fiance once insisted too much to tell him all my past relations with men...etc. I told him about two relations with two young men when I was just 18 years old, but I just revealed some forbidden things happened not all details because I did repent to Allah from all such forbidden things and decided to start a new life. But my fiance phoned that young man via SMS (I don't know how he got his num ...

I have committed a great sin and I prayed to Allaah and asked Him to forgive me. Will my repentance from that sin be accepted? I feel that my repentance has not been accepted and that Allaah is angry with me. Are there any indications that repentance has been accepted?.

I live in an apartment building and in my apartment I left one of the windows open. A cat gave birth to four kittens, and I spoke to my father about these kittens and he told me to keep them for a while until the kittens got a little bigger and could fend for themselves, but I only kept them for a short while, until their eyes were open and they had begun to walk, then I threw them out of the apartment and put them on the roof, although I knew that their mother would never be able to find where ...

I heard a shaykh saying that it is not permissible to say, “O Allah, accept from us our righteous deeds”, because that may imply that Allah could accept evil deeds from us, and Allah, may He be glorified and exalted, is Good and does not accept anything but that which is good; and it is more correct to say “O Allah, accept from us our deeds”. Is this correct?

Recently I have turned back to my deen, Alhamdulilah, and I have a few questions regarding how I should conduct myself in my mixed western school. I've been in my 11th year for a few months now and have started this year with tremendous change. I wear hijab and abaya now, I don't go out or chill , I don't free mix if I can help it, but many times its inevitable. There are barely any muslims in my school, and of the few hardly any practicing so there is basically no righteous company to be among. ...

I am a young man who was guided by Allaah – all praise be to Him – four months ago. I am surprised at all the bid’ahs that the people follow, hence I visit this site of yours all the time. I live in a family where all the people pray, praise be to Allaah. I have two sisters aged 14 and 16. They do not wear jilbaabs, rather they just cover their heads. When I try to convince them to wear jilbaab my mother stands in my way even though she wears jilbaab herself, and she tells me that ...

I have a computer, mobile phone and other things all of which came through haraam means, in the sense that I had a relationship for a while and he gave me these things with no ulterior motive or bad intention. The evidence is that he proposed to me but my family rejected him. What I mean is that he gave them willingly and always regarded these things as belonging to me and not to him. In the end, the relationship came to an end, praise be to Allah. But I want to ask about the ruling on my u ...

A brother of ours has recently become Muslim. During his days of Jaahiliyyah (ignorance – i.e., before he became Muslim), he earned a lot of money by dealing in drugs. He brought this money with him and opened a big bookstore and got married using this money. Recently he has been told that it is not permissible for him to give this money in charity, because Allaah is Good and only accepts that which is good, Our question is, what should he do with this money, and how sound is what he has be ...
