My mother has died, and she told me when she was still alive that she owed the fasts of two months, Ramadan in two years, when the month of fasting came when she gave birth. When she died, she had not made up these fasts. Should I fast on her behalf or feed the poor? How is feeding the poor to be done? Should I slaughter some goats and share it out among sixty households, or should I give the value of the food in money?

Is it permissible to fast on the birthday of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on the basis of the hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim, al-Nasaa’i and Abu Dawood, which says that when he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) was asked about fasting on Mondays, he said: “That is the day on which I was born…” Also on the basis of this hadeeth, is it permissible for a person to fast on the day on which he was born, following thereby the example of the Prophet (b ...

Ive read in your fatwas, this will mean for non-pilgrims the 9th day for fasting is different for those following the regional opinion of eid ul adha to the 9th day in saudi arabia e.g. yoour 9th day for fasting in the uk may be when it is the 10th day of eid in saudi. Ok that i understand. The bit I'm not sure about is: I've read in a book, that you should do duaas on the day of arafat 9th day, just like the pilgrims are doing, its good day for duas even for non pigrims to be done simultane ...

I decided without any knowledge of tashreeq to complete the fasting of Ramadan. Do I count the 2 of the 3 days of tashreeq that I started fasting or must I start counting my ten days (due to menses and illness)after tashreeq.

I have the habit of fasting every Thursday and it so happened that I fasted on Thursday 12th Dhu’l-Hijjah. On the Friday I heard that it is not permissible to fast on the Days of al-Tashreeq and that Thursday was the third of the days of al-Tashreeq. Is there any sin on me if I fasted that day? Is it true that it is not permissible to fast on the days of al-Tashreeq or should we avoid fasting only on the first days of Eid?

Please could you answer my questions regarding this month of Dhul Hijjah. On your website you mention how it is recommended to fast on the day of ‘Arafah, but I have read that this is true also of the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah Is this correct? If it is then can you confirm if in total there will be 9 not ten fasts as the tenth day is the Day of Eid.

My mother is 55, and when she reached puberty she sometimes did not fast out of ignorance, with no excuse. Now she fasts on Mondays and Thursdays. Should she intend that as voluntary fasts or as fasts to make up what she missed?
