In Canada, girls have been prohibited from participating in a tae kwon do tournament because they wanted to wear their hijab under their protective headgear. They were told to remove their hijabs or they would not be allowed to participate. The girls refused to remove their hijabs. Did they do the right thing? Please know that the protective headgear covers their entire heads and also that the girls were from 8 to 14 years old.

I have heard that wigs and hair extensions are forbidden in Islam. However, many young women today wear artificial hair extensions that are obviously not their real hair. They are merely decorative. Are such hair extensions allowed in Islam? I understand that women cannot show their hair to other than their husbands, close family, and other women.

Is it really prohibited for a man to wear clothes that hang below his ankles? Does this apply to pants as well? I heard a hadîth where Abû Bakr wore his clothes below his ankles and the Prophet (peace be upon him) excused him because he did not do so out of pride. Does this hadîth show that it is not the length of the clothes themselves that matters but the intention of the wearer?

Some people say that it is unlawful for Muslim men to wear neckties, since they claim that the necktie has its origins in Christian religious traditions and that it symbolizes the cross. On the other hand, there are people who say that a Muslim man can even wear silk neckties - though silk is forbidden for men - because the tie is not actually worn directly on the body. What is the correct ruling on men's neckties?
